We have recently purchased a first 300 with rigid kicker and no topping lift. As this is a spacraft kicker I assume it was fitted as an option before delivery when new. If fitted new it is now 11 years old
I assumed it worked as there were 2 owners before us. The item is sprung loaded and takes much pushing to get it to retract [off the boat]
The problem is that as soon as the main is eased down the boom drops, until held up by the lazy cords for the flat stacker
How can you adjust the fitting point under the boom and how do you test the power in the kicker?
I have noticed many boats in the sailing mags that have rigid kickers and topping lifts
So why spend the money?
