211 Boom Vang

We've had a 211 from new for a year or so, and are getting to grips with the limitations of the standard set up and equipment, particularly for club racing. The boom vang seems inadequate and I'd like to change it. I'm pretty sure that a set of ball bearing blocks with one, at the mast foot, having a cam cleat will improve things greatly, however what is the ideal purchase (mechanical advantage)? The stock jam cleat 4:1 seems to be quite easily overpowered by the mainsheet when close hauled, and I suspect that the high friction inhibits its useability. Can anybody offer advice on the use of a slick 4:1, or make any recommendations involving a higher mechanical advantage ?
